How Mega Evolution Works
Mega Evolution temporarily releases a Pokémon's hidden power during battle. It is separate from the Pokémon's permanent evolution family.
- 1In most main-series implementations, a Trainer's Key Stone resonates with the matching Mega Stone associated with an eligible Pokémon.
- 2Mega Evolution changes the Pokémon's appearance and stats for the battle. Some Mega forms also change type.
- 3Established Mega forms may gain a different Ability in games that use the traditional Ability system.
- 4Battle limits, activation timing and item rules depend on the game. Pokémon Legends: Z-A uses a different real-time battle implementation and does not use the traditional Ability system.
- 5Gigantamax, Primal Reversion, Ultra Burst and Terastallization are separate mechanics and are not included in this list.
