3. Lt. Surge

Vermilion City · Thunder Badge

Ground-type Pokémon are the safest counter because Electric attacks do not affect them in Generation I.

Celadon City · Rainbow Badge

Flying, Fire, and Psychic pressure are strong. Bring status healing because Grass teams can disrupt with sleep or poison.

5. Koga

Fuchsia City · Soul Badge

Psychic and Ground attacks are reliable answers. Keep Antidotes or Full Heals ready for poison.

6. Sabrina

Water, Rock, and Ground attacks handle most of the Gym. Watch for strong late-game Fire damage from Arcanine.
