Use an Odd Keystone at the Hallowed Tower and complete the original Nintendo DS Underground interaction requirement to encounter Spiritomb.

Quick Answer

Place an Odd Keystone in the Hallowed Tower on Route 209, then speak to other player characters in the original Underground 32 times. Return to the tower to battle a level 25 Spiritomb. NPC traders do not count, and this is not the 32-NPC Grand Underground method used by Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Requirements

An Odd Keystone placed in the Hallowed Tower on Route 209

The Explorer Kit and access to the original Underground

A second player and compatible Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum hardware for local wireless interactions

Poké Balls and a saved game before activating the encounter

Original DS Spiritomb method

  1. Obtain an Odd Keystone

Use one of the limited Odd Keystones available in Sinnoh, then inspect the broken stone structure called the Hallowed Tower on Route 209 and place the keystone inside.

  2. Enter the Underground

Use the Explorer Kit in an outdoor area. Another Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum player must be connected through local DS wireless and appear underground.

  3. Record 32 player conversations

Speak to player characters 32 times. They do not have to be 32 different people. The same player can count more than once when the Underground interaction state is reset correctly between conversations, but no single reset action should be treated as guaranteed for every connection setup.

  4. Check the tower messages

The Hallowed Tower text changes as the count rises: shifted stones, crying, shaking, and finally a presence ready to emerge. These messages are a practical progress check when the exact total is uncertain.

  5. Save and trigger Spiritomb

After the 32nd valid interaction, save beside the Hallowed Tower and inspect it. Spiritomb immediately starts a level 25 battle.

What counts and what does not

  • Talking to actual player characters in the original Underground counts.
  • Underground NPC traders do not count toward Spiritomb.
  • The same player can count repeatedly when the Underground interaction state is reset correctly between conversations.
  • The shutdown of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection does not change the local wireless requirement; this method was not an online Wi-Fi matchmaking feature.
  • BDSP uses 32 different named Grand Underground NPCs, which is a separate remake rule and does not apply here.

Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum differences

The Hallowed Tower, Odd Keystone, 32-player-conversation requirement, and level 25 encounter work the same way across original Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Platinum does not replace the multiplayer count with NPCs. The 32 named NPC method belongs only to the later Nintendo Switch remakes.

Catching more than one Spiritomb

If Spiritomb is defeated or the battle is otherwise lost, reload the save made before inspecting the tower. The encounter is not designed as an automatic daily respawn.

A new Spiritomb can be summoned later, but each one needs another Odd Keystone and another set of 32 qualifying interactions. Because Odd Keystones are limited and the multiplayer work repeats, save before every encounter.

Common Mistakes and Troubleshooting

Talking to Underground NPC traders instead of another player character.

Using the BDSP 32-NPC rule for the original Nintendo DS games.

Repeating a greeting without either player leaving the main Underground area between interactions.

Expecting the discontinued Nintendo Wi-Fi service to supply remote players.

Starting the encounter without saving when another Odd Keystone is difficult to replace.

FAQ

How many people do you need to talk to for Spiritomb?

You need 32 qualifying conversations with player characters in the original Underground. They do not have to involve 32 different people.

Can you talk to the same player multiple times?

Yes. The same player can count more than once when the Underground interaction state is reset correctly between conversations. Connection behavior can vary, so do not assume one specific Secret Base action is guaranteed to register every time.

Can you get Spiritomb without another Nintendo DS?

Not through the intended original DPP method. It requires local wireless interaction with another player character using compatible hardware and a Gen4 Sinnoh game.

Is the BDSP Spiritomb method the same?

No. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl count named Grand Underground NPCs. Original Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum count conversations with real player characters.

What happens if you defeat Spiritomb?

Reload a save from before activating the Hallowed Tower. To summon another Spiritomb normally, place another Odd Keystone and complete another 32 interactions.
