Pokémon Platinum Distortion World Guide

Navigate Platinum's altered-gravity story dungeon from Spear Pillar through Cyrus, the Lake Guardian boulder puzzle, and Giratina.

Generation IVSinnohPokémon Platinum
Quick Answer

The Distortion World is a Platinum-only story dungeon entered from Spear Pillar with Cynthia after Team Galactic summons Dialga and Palkia. Follow Giratina and Cynthia, activate disappearing platforms and gravity walls, push three boulders into the Lake Guardians' pits, defeat Cyrus, then face level 47 Giratina.

Requirements

Pokémon Platinum and progression through the Spear Pillar Team Galactic climax

A healed team prepared for Cyrus and Giratina without a Pokémon Center inside

Poké Balls and status support if you intend to catch Giratina

No field HM is required inside the Distortion World

Staged route through the Distortion World

  1. Enter with Cynthia

At Spear Pillar, Giratina interrupts Cyrus's plan and opens the portal. Follow Cynthia inside. The early path teaches the visual rule: step onto dark platform centers or approach floating terrain to make routes appear and move.

  2. Follow Giratina's landmarks

Continue downward whenever Giratina crosses the screen. Walk onto the faces of walls when the path rotates; the camera orientation changes, but the next active platform remains marked by movement or a dark trigger point.

  3. Meet the Lake Guardians

Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf appear as you descend. Their appearances indicate progress toward the lower boulder chamber rather than optional wild encounters.

  4. Move the three boulders

Use Strength-like pushing supplied by the dungeon interaction: place each of the three visible boulders into the pit beside its matching Lake Guardian. If a boulder is pushed incorrectly, leave and return to the local platform section to reset its position.

  5. Reach the waterfall and lower platforms

After all three boulders are placed, follow Cynthia across the newly active path. Inspect platform edges and tree or rock movement; when a route seems to end, step toward the nearby floating object to reveal the next surface.

  6. Defeat Cyrus

Cyrus challenges you near the bottom with his strongest Platinum story team. Heal before speaking to him and preserve resources for Giratina immediately afterward.

  7. Save before Giratina

Continue to level 47 Origin Forme Giratina. Catching, defeating, or fleeing allows the story to proceed; if not caught, Giratina can be encountered later through Turnback Cave.

  8. Leave through the final portal

After the encounter, follow Cynthia and use the exit portal. It returns you to Sendoff Spring rather than Spear Pillar.

Returning after the story

The full story route is not reopened from Spear Pillar. After the National Pokédex progression, navigate Turnback Cave to Giratina's former room and use the portal there to enter a limited Distortion World area containing the Griseous Orb.

There are no ordinary wild Pokémon inside the story dungeon. Bring all capture supplies before entering, but do not waste time searching its platforms for standard encounters or hidden HM requirements.
