Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald Regi Puzzle Guide

Unlock Regirock, Regice, and Registeel with Relicanth, Wailord, Surf, Dive, Dig, Route 134 currents, and Sealed Chamber party-order notes.

Unlock Regirock, Regice, and Registeel

The Hoenn Regi puzzle is a multi-step unlock sequence built around Route 134 currents, the Sealed Chamber, Relicanth, Wailord, Surf, Dive, and Dig. The exact party order changes between Ruby/Sapphire and Emerald, so check your version before solving the chamber.

Required Pokémon

Bring Relicanth and Wailord. In Ruby and Sapphire, place Relicanth first and Wailord last. In Emerald, place Wailord first and Relicanth last.

Required moves

Surf and Dive are needed to reach the underwater route and Sealed Chamber path. Dig is used inside the chamber to continue the unlock sequence.

Route context

Start from the ocean current routes around Pacifidlog Town and Route 134. The currents are part of the puzzle, so missed tiles can push you past the dive spot.

Step-by-step Sealed Chamber sequence
  1. Prepare Relicanth, Wailord, Surf, Dive, and Dig before traveling to the current routes.
  2. Use the Route 134 / Pacifidlog current path to reach the underwater dive spot.
  3. Use Dive, follow the underwater path, and surface near the Sealed Chamber entrance.
  4. Read the Braille-style wall clues as instructions, not decoration.
  5. Use Dig in the correct chamber room to open the deeper section.
  6. Set the correct party order for your version: Ruby/Sapphire use Relicanth first and Wailord last; Emerald uses Wailord first and Relicanth last.
  7. Trigger the unlock event, then leave the chamber and visit each separate Regi ruin.

After the Sealed Chamber unlock, go to the desert ruin. The ruin has its own interaction puzzle before the battle starts, so do not expect the encounter to begin immediately at the door.

Regice is found in a separate cave after the unlock event. Bring status, healing, and safe chip damage because defensive legendary captures can take time.

Registeel is also locked behind its own ruin interaction after Sealed Chamber. Solve the room, then treat the battle like a long capture attempt.

Common mistakes
  • Using the Ruby/Sapphire party order in Emerald, or the Emerald order in Ruby/Sapphire.
  • Forgetting Dig after reaching the chamber.
  • Missing the Route 134 current path and assuming the dive spot is unreachable.
  • Trying the Desert Ruins, Island Cave, or Ancient Tomb before the Sealed Chamber unlock event.
Preparation checklist
  • Relicanth and Wailord are already caught and placed in the correct version-specific order.
  • Surf, Dive, and Dig are available before starting the Route 134 current path.
  • Repels, Escape Ropes, healing, and capture balls are stocked before visiting the ruins.
  • You have saved before each Regi battle so an accidental knockout does not end the attempt.

FAQ

What Pokémon do you need for the Regi puzzle in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald?

You need Relicanth and Wailord, plus Surf, Dive, and Dig. Ruby and Sapphire use Relicanth first and Wailord last in the party order; Emerald reverses that order with Wailord first and Relicanth last.

Where does the Regi puzzle start?

The unlock sequence starts around Route 134 near Pacifidlog Town, where ocean currents lead to an underwater entrance connected to the Sealed Chamber.

Why will the Regi doors not open?

Common causes include missing Relicanth or Wailord, using the wrong party order for the version, forgetting Dig, not reaching the correct Sealed Chamber room, or visiting the individual ruins before the unlock event.
