Pokémon Gen 5 Version Exclusives

Plan true exclusives and acquisition differences across all four original Gen5 cartridges.

Generation VUnovaPokémon BlackPokémon WhitePokémon Black 2Pokémon White 2
Quick Answer

The original pair and sequels use related but non-identical availability profiles. Plan each cartridge separately, and distinguish true exclusives from different encounter methods, resident systems, Hidden Grottoes, events and transfer-only species.

Requirements

Use the exact game column, not a simple Black-side versus White-side assumption.

Treat events and external software as separate acquisition categories.

Locations and encounter methods

  • Black City and White Forest create location-specific trainers, services and encounters.
  • Black Tower and White Treehollow are sequel facility exclusives unless the required counterpart Key is transferred.
  • Hidden Grotto contents in B2W2 can vary by location and should not be labeled as simple BW-style exclusives.
  • Swarms, special areas and gifts may change acquisition without making the species universally version-exclusive.

Event and transfer categories

  • Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect are historical event content.
  • Dream World and Dream Radar availability depends on discontinued online service or separate software.
  • Transfer-only species require compatible earlier games and original transfer systems.

FAQ

Do Black 2 and White 2 use the same exclusives as Black and White?

Not completely. Several pairings continue, but legendary roles, expanded Pokédex access, gifts, special areas and encounter methods require a separate sequel comparison.

Is Black City itself a version exclusive?

Yes. Black City is the Black-side location and White Forest is the White-side counterpart, with different resident-dependent content.
