Normal

The most common type in the Pokémon world. Normal-type moves often have no secondary effect but can be powerful and reliable. Normal types have no resistances and only one weakness (Fighting). They are immune to Ghost-type moves. Many early-route Pokémon are Normal type.

Fire

Fire types embody heat and flame. They deal super-effective damage to Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel. They are weak to Water, Ground, and Rock. Fire resists Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, and Fairy. Fire moves can inflict burn, which halves the target's Attack. Many Fire Pokémon have high Special Attack.

Water

Water types are abundant and versatile. They are strong against Fire, Ground, and Rock, and weak to Electric and Grass. Water resists Fire, Water, Ice, and Steel. Water moves have no inherent status effect but offer great coverage. Water Pokémon appear in nearly every region's early routes.

Electric

Electric types are fast and often cause paralysis. They hit Flying and Water super effectively and are weak only to Ground. Electric resists Electric, Flying, and Steel. Electric moves frequently inflict paralysis, which can fully prevent a turn. Many Electric Pokémon have high Speed.

Grass

Grass types represent plants and nature. They are strong against Ground, Rock, and Water, but weak to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug—giving them five weaknesses. Grass resists Water, Electric, Grass, and Ground. Grass moves can inflict sleep, paralysis, or leech effects.

Ice

Ice types are powerful but fragile. They hit Grass, Ground, Flying, and Dragon super effectively. Ice is weak to Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel—four common offensive types. Ice resists only itself. Ice moves can freeze the target solid. Ice Pokémon often have high offensive stats.

Fighting

Fighting types excel in physical combat. They are super effective against Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel. Weak to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy. Fighting resists Bug, Rock, and Dark. Many Fighting moves have high power or useful secondary effects like flinching or stat drops.

Poison

Poison types rely on status and chip damage. They hit Grass and Fairy super effectively and are weak to Ground and Psychic. Poison resists Fighting, Poison, Bug, Grass, and Fairy. Poison moves can inflict poison or bad poison (toxic), dealing increasing damage each turn.

Ground

Ground types control the earth. They are super effective against Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, and Steel. Weak to Water, Grass, and Ice. Ground resists Poison and Rock, and is immune to Electric. Ground moves can lower accuracy or cause flinching. Many Ground Pokémon have high Defense.

Flying

Flying types soar above the battlefield. They hit Grass, Fighting, and Bug super effectively. Weak to Electric, Rock, and Ice. Flying resists Grass, Fighting, and Bug, and is immune to Ground. Flying moves often have high accuracy and can cause flinch. Many Flying Pokémon are fast.

Psychic

Psychic types wield mental power. They are super effective against Fighting and Poison, and weak to Bug, Ghost, and Dark. Psychic resists Fighting and Psychic. Psychic moves can lower stats, cause confusion, or inflict damage based on the target's Defense. Many Psychic Pokémon have high Special Attack.

Bug

Bug types are often underestimated. They hit Grass, Psychic, and Dark super effectively. Weak to Fire, Flying, and Rock. Bug resists Fighting, Ground, and Grass. Bug moves can lower stats or cause other effects. Many Bug Pokémon evolve early and have useful abilities.

Rock

Rock types are durable and hit hard. They are super effective against Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug. Rock has five weaknesses: Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel. Rock resists Normal, Fire, Poison, and Flying. Rock moves can lower Speed or cause flinching. Many Rock Pokémon have high Defense.

Ghost

Ghost types are mysterious and tricky. They hit Psychic and Ghost super effectively. Weak to Ghost and Dark. Ghost resists Poison and Bug, and is immune to Normal and Fighting. Ghost moves can inflict curse, confuse, or lower stats. Many Ghost Pokémon have unique defensive abilities.

Dragon

Dragon types are traditionally powerful. They hit only Dragon super effectively but resist Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric. Weak to Ice, Dragon, and Fairy. Dragon moves often have high base power. Many Dragon Pokémon have high stats across the board and evolve late.

Dark

Dark types use underhanded tactics. They hit Psychic and Ghost super effectively. Weak to Fighting, Bug, and Fairy. Dark resists Ghost and Dark, and is immune to Psychic. Dark moves can flinch, lower stats, or have other disruptive effects. Many Dark Pokémon have high Attack.

Steel

Steel types are extremely defensive. They hit Ice, Rock, and Fairy super effectively. Weak to Fire, Fighting, and Ground. Steel resists Normal, Grass, Ice, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Steel, and Fairy—ten resistances. Steel moves have no common status but offer solid coverage.

Fairy

Fairy types were introduced in Gen 6 to balance Dragon. They hit Fighting, Dragon, and Dark super effectively. Weak to Poison and Steel. Fairy resists Fighting, Bug, Dark, and is immune to Dragon. Fairy moves can lower stats or cause other effects. Many Fairy Pokémon have high Special Defense.
